Zipline, Tubing, Caving, Hiking, Rappelling, Custom and Private Adventures in Puerto Rico

Classic Adventure Frequently Asked Questions
  • How much does it cost? The price for our classic, full-day adventures (Organic Tanamá River and Cave Adventure and Toro Negro Rainforest Adventure) is $159.43 per person, plus tax. This price includes transportation from your hotel in the San Juan area, a delicious homemade lunch, the use of technical equipment such as harnesses and helmets for the vertical elements, and expert guides for the day.
  • Should I tip my guide? In Puerto Rico, a gratuity of 10%-20% is standard, though not obligatory, for good service. You will have an opportunity to add a gratuity to your credit card on the day of your adventure, if you choose.
  • How many people will be in my group? Adventures require a minimum of 6 people and a maximum of 13. Special arrangements can be made for larger or smaller groups by arranging for a Custom Adventure.
  • Do I need to make a reservation? We recommend that you reserve as far in advance as you are able. Dates during the high season fill quickly, and during lower season your advance notice gives us time to find others who want to go on the same day to reach our minimum group size. To make a reservation, please call or e-mail us for a reservation form, or –download one here-
  • What kind of shape do I need to be in to participate? You do not need to be an extreme athlete or an experienced outdoorsperson to participate in our adventures. You do need to be healthy and of average fitness. To give you an idea of what you’re signing up for, your adventure may include hiking on uneven and slippery terrain, wading in moving water, standing near steep ledges and cliffs, and hiking over sustained hills. If you have a medical or physical condition which makes participating in these activities dangerous for you, you should not participate. If you have any questions about your ability to participate, please call and speak with one of our staff about your concerns before you make a reservation. Due to size restrictions on our harnesses and other technical equipment, we are not able to accommodate people weighing over 230lbs on rappelling or zip-lining elements of our tours. • What if I don’t want to rappel or do the zip-line? You will be under no pressure or obligation to rappel or zip-line on our tours, and there will be a walkable route down so you can remain with the rest of your group. The price for the tour remains the same, whether or not you participate in the vertical elements.
  • What are the age limits? For the safety and comfort of everyone in the group, participants on our Classic Adventures must be at least 12 years old. If you are young-at-heart and old-in-the-joints, please read the description of the physical demands of the trip listed above to determine whether you are prepared for the level of physical strain. If you have young children or other special needs in your group, we would be happy to work with you to design a Custom Adventure for you.
  • What do I need to bring?
    • A small backpack with room for the harness and helmet you’ll be issued on arrival
    • Water (at least one bottle per person)
    • Comfortable clothes for hiking that can get dirty and wet (shorts and a t-shirt with a bathing suit underneath is a good choice)
    • Sturdy, close-toed shoes that can get muddy and wet (an old pair of sneakers is great)
    • A towel and change of dry clothes for your comfort on the ride home
    • Your camera!
  • Where do I meet Acampa? We will pick you up at your hotel if you are staying in the San Juan area. If this is not a good option for you, we can arrange a meeting place in San Juan or on the way to our adventure site.
  • Can I drive myself? You are welcome to drive yourself to a convenient meeting place if you will not be departing from the San Juan area. However, our adventure sites are deep in the mountains of Puerto Rico and they can be difficult to find even for locals who are familiar with the area. For this reason, you will need to ride with us for at least the last portion of the drive. The price for the adventure remains the same regardless of where you meet our van.
  • When does the tour leave and return? We pick guests up in San Juan at 7am and return around 6pm. Please allow some flexibility in your evening schedule in case your group returns a little earlier or later.
  • How far away is the tour site from San Juan? The drive time from San Juan is around an hour and a half to two hours each way. This may seem like a lot, but we take you to some of the most untouched parts of the island – so we have to get out of the city!
  • How does Acampa compare to the competition? Acampa Nature Adventure is endorsed by the Puerto Rican Tourism Association and fully insured for our adventure activities. We pride ourselves on our impeccable safety record and our commitment to preserving and protecting Puerto Rico’s natural environment. Additionally, we are the only adventure guides practicing eco-tourism. For more about what makes Acampa different from other adventure companies in Puerto Rico, please see ¬our -testimonials- (link here to testimonials) to read what our customers are saying about us.
  • What is eco-tourism? Ecotourism is the practice of promoting sustainable tourism in a culturally and biologically diverse region. We operate our tours on private land with the consent and participation of local families who welcome us onto their land by preparing our delicious lunches, and who share in the profits generated by the tourism on their land. While adventure and fun are a primary focus of our tours, we strive to increase cultural and environmental awareness by introducing our customers to native plant and animal species and sharing historical information and cultural perspectives. Finally, we are committed to the protection of Puerto Rico’s natural environment, and with each adventure we run we contribute to the maintenance and care of the land on which we operate.
